Tool-makingunder ourown roof.
In-house toolmaking is the heart of Heller Kunststoffe: several CNC-controlled wire EDM machines manufacture extrusion tools to your drawing in a very short time. After tool completion you receive samples for trials and tests; after your approval, series production begins without delay.
From drawing to series
Five steps, all under one roof. That is why we are fast, and why the dimensions fit in the end.

01
Drawing or sample
You supply a drawing, a sketch or a sample; even just the installation situation is enough to start. Our design team checks the geometry for extrudability and suggests optimisations where useful.
-
02
CNC wire EDM
The tool contour is cut from hardened steel: several CNC-controlled wire EDM machines cut the profile geometry with the precision that every metre of profile will later inherit.
-
03
Tool finishing
Inlet geometry, transitions and surfaces are fine-tuned: an optimal tool later guarantees a smooth production process with consistently high quality.
-
04
Samples for your tests
After tool completion we extrude samples for trial and test purposes. You check dimensions, function and installation on your real part, at your pace.

05
Approval and series start
Once approved, series production begins within a very short time: on one of our 20 extrusion lines, with the tool you just released.

Why wire EDM?
Wire EDM (wire electrical discharge machining) is a spark erosion process: a fine wire removes material without contact and cuts even complex, sharp-edged contours precisely into hardened steel. For extrusion tools that is ideal, because the die geometry directly determines the dimensional accuracy of the profile.
Because these machines are in our own building, there are no delivery loops with external toolmakers: shorter paths, faster samples, direct responsibility.
First the sample, then the series
No series start without your approval: the sample from the finished tool is our proof and your security.

What does an extrusion tool cost?
That depends mainly on geometry, material and calibration; flat rates would be dishonest. The cost drivers are explained in our article "What does extrusion tooling cost?". After a look at your drawing we will give you concrete figures.
How long until the first sample?
Thanks to in-house toolmaking with CNC wire EDM machines we realise profiles to your drawing in a very short time. You receive samples right after tool completion; a binding date comes with the quotation.
Can the tool still be adjusted after sampling?
Yes, that is exactly what sampling is for: only when dimensions and function are right on your sample and you approve does series production begin.
Who owns the tool?
The arrangement is set out transparently in the quotation.
Drawing ready? Tool incoming.
Send us a drawing, a sample or simply the installation situation. We will get back to you with an initial technical assessment.
